Why the Bible?

When discussing topics related to Faith, many people ask what makes the Bible so special. Unfortunately many people do not want to hear the answers to their own questions, but merely want to hear their own opinions (see Proverbs 18:2).

 Fools have no interest in understanding;
they only want to air their own opinions. (Proverbs 18:2)

On the other hand, many people, both Christians and non-Christians alike are seriously seeking answers to what makes the Bible so special. Many argue that all religious books are valid, while others will point out that the various religious books in the world teach very different things, and are often not logically compatible.

Here you will find answers to such questions as "Why are there only 66 books in the Bible - and how were they chosen?", "Is Jesus really God?" and "What about the objections in The Davinci Code?".

Why 66?

A playlist on the origins of the Bible, and how we know that the 66 Books we have are the "right" books in the Bible.

The Historical Jesus, and the Historical Resurrection

A playlist on the historicity of Jesus Christ and the historicity of the resurrection. This playlist contains both Christian Apologists, Christian Scholars, and Skeptical Scholars who do not believe in the Christian Faith.

Was Jesus Copied From Pagan Mythology?

In a nutshell, no. A lot of Atheists will claim that Jesus was copied from Horus, and other Pagan myths, but no scholar in the world takes these ideas seriously.

Horus Ruins Christmas - A comedic look at the claims of those who say that Jesus was copied from Pagan Mythology.

Zeitgeist Debunked: Jesus Is Not A Copy Of Pagan Gods - I've gotta say, this guy did amazing research! I was particularly amazed to see the wealth of quotes from actual scholars he was able to find on this topic. Most ignore this nonsense Internet conspiracy theory. This is Truly a gem!

* For Questions on whether or not the gospels can be trusted as being historically true and accurate, see the following resources (note, I read “More Than a Carpenter” twice and I often had a hard time putting it down):

This next links are the “More Than a Carpenter” links, and as much as Christians say “read this” and “read that” this book is very short (just over 100 pages) yet it more completely defends the story of Jesus better than anything that I have ever seen. I am very cautious about what I do and do not recommend, but this is something that every Christian should read.

This next part is completely copy/pasted. I was unable to ask the person’s permission, because it was in a comment in a blog that I am not familiar with, and I could not get a hold of any contact info. These are NOT quotes, but they reference where Jesus claims to be God very well.

Jesus Accepted Worship as God

Psalms 110:1 (Old Testament) - the angels worship the Lord God.
Hebrews 1:6 (New Testament) - the angels worship
Jesus Christ.
Only God is worshiped.

Matt. 2:2,11 - the magi who came to see the newborn
Jesus came to worship Him.

Matt. 8:2 - a leper came to
Jesus and worshiped Him without rebuke.

Luke 24:52 - as
Jesus ascended into heaven, the apostles worshiped Him.

John 9:38 - the blind man who was cured by
Jesus worshiped Him.

Matt. 14:33 - the apostles who were in the boat worshiped
Jesus without rebuke.

Matt. 28:9 -
Jesus' disciples took His feet and worshiped Him without rebuke.

Matt. 28:17 -
Jesus' disciples saw Him and then worshiped Him.

Mark 5:6 - the man with the unclean spirit ran to
Jesus and worshiped Him.

John 20:28 -
Jesus accepts Thomas' statement
"My Lord and my God!"
Literally, "the Lord of me and the God of me!"
(in Greek, "Ho Kurios mou kai ho Theos mou").

* What about The Da Vinci Code?

Recently Dan Brown wrote a series of books that took tired, old, out-of-date arguments that have been discredited for a very long time, and put them into a novel presenting a lot of nonsense and false-information as fact. Basically, there is nothing at all new about Dan Browns pseudo-arguments, this is stuff that has been disproven long ago. Dan Brown has since made quite a fortune running around the world with idiotic conspiracy theories, presenting them as if they were intellectual and daring thought. Dan Brown claims that the facts presented in his books are accurate, however he failed to even get the date that the Dead Sea Scrolls were discovered to be accurate. It also amazes me that anyone would put the word of a supposed code in a painting from the late 15th century over the word of the first century eye-witness accounts of Jesus' life. The primary eye-witnesses from the first century are ignored, because they supposedly wrote "too-long" after the events of Jesus' life, however a painting from over 1400 years later has an alleged secret code in it that tells the "real" story - where are people's brains these days? (Contrary to popular belief, the "idiot box" has not made us enlightened!)
